Have you ever been interested in helping your fellow Animal Control Officers, or being a voice to help guide law changes for animals, or want to become more involved in the Animal Control field? Here is a great opportunity to share your skills, time, and interest. This year VACA has 6 board positions open for filling. If you are interested in running for the board, here are some of the important details you need to know about.

Board members serve a 3-year term and must be current or retired Animal Control Officers in good standing with VACA and their agency. Board members are required to attend the quarterly board meetings held in different VA locations and participate in the weeklong annual conference. Along with the other Board Members, you will also work towards providing training and resources for the Animal Control field. This includes but is not limited to academies, conferences, shelter schools, and other related training. The Board provides provisions of expertise and guidance on animal control programs to officials at City, County, and State levels. They educate the public on responsible animal ownership and promotion of understanding and cooperation between animals control personnel and the public. They liaison with other professional organizations and groups having related interests, which could include representing the Board at the state level for law change support.

Elections for the current positions will be held during the annual VACA Conference concluding at the end of the VACA annual business meeting on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Results will be announced on Friday, October 11, 2024, during the morning announcements at the conference.
